Meet-a-Mom, Stephanie Tuthill

What’s your favorite family activity in the Hinsdale, Western Springs, La Grange, Clarendon Hills Area?
We moved to Hinsdale last year and already have so many favorites. We love being outdoors – going to the pool, Katherine Legge park, playing with neighbors and summer concerts in the park. During the winter, we are often at the library or doing a class at the Community House.

How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
We have three children: Grace (5), Caroline (3) and Brooks (1)

How long have you lived in the Hinsdale/WS/La Grange/CH Area? What made you decide to live here?
After living in the city for many years, we made the move to Hinsdale last year. While it was hard for us to leave Bucktown, we had outgrown our space with three kids and knew it was time for the burbs. My husband grew up in Hinsdale so we were already familiar with the community.

Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop in the Hinsdale/WS/La Grange/CH Area?
I love supporting local restaurants and shops and have so many favorites! For date nights, we love Topaz and Capri. For family restaurants, our favorites are Guilianos, Yia Yia’s and Fuller House (or anywhere that is ok with three kids 5 and under!). Also, I’m gluten-free and grateful to have Sweet Ali’s GF bakery nearby.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
My husband and I lived in Dallas, TX for a few years. I worked as a clinical researcher at the University of Texas Center for Brain Health providing cognitive training to veterans suffering from traumatic brain injuries. We loved Dallas, but those summers there are hot!

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My family and friends have been instrumental in parenting three young children! My husband is the best hands-on dad
and the grandparents have been a huge help with raising the kids. Also, a great mom resource for me is BumbleBaby,
started by my friend Kate Arquilla.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I started Tiny Talkers, a free speech and language resource for parents and caregivers of little ones (@tiny.talkers) with my friend, Becky! I’m a speech language pathologist and have worked for over 10 years in schools, hospitals and in-home speech. We created Tiny Talkers to provide tips and ideas to help support the communication skills of children. We provide information about speech and language development, strategies, resources and more.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Even in the short amount of time we have lived in Hinsdale, we have already connected with so many people. Last year, I was excited to join the Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club. I have met many wonderful women through the club and I love that HJWC is committed to helping others, especially those in our community.
