Meet-a-Mom Cindy Masters | Hinsdale Area Moms

Meet-a-Mom, Cindy Masters

What’s your favorite family activity in the Hinsdale, Western Springs, La Grange, Clarendon Hills Area?
It would be hard to pick just one, there are so many fun things to do in our area.
We live on the South end of Western Springs, so we love taking a ‘long’ bike ride as a family to Spring Rock Park. We then ride over to town, and stop for a fun treat like cookies from Kirschbaum’s Bakery, a fruit smoothie from the Fruit Store, or donuts and coffee from BB’s Baby Donuts.
Every year, we look forward to the LaGrange Pet Parade. My kids usually march in the parade with Impact Dance Studio, the LFC Tigers Cheer team and the AYSO soccer league. It is a fun event to kick off summer and an annual family tradition.

How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
We have 5 kids, 4 girls and 1 boy. They are 16, 13, 11, 9, and 7.
Rylee – 16 – sophomore at LT
Emily – 13 – 7th grade Highlands Middle School
Kyle – 11 – 6th grade Highlands Middle school
Madelyn – 9 – 4th grade Highlands Elementary
Megan – 7 – 1st grade Highlands Elementary

How long have you lived in the Hinsdale/WS/La Grange/CH Area? What made you decide to live here?
A long time! My husband was born and raised in LaGrange and attended Seventh Avenue, Gurrie, and LT. We always loved this area for the schools, quaint downtown areas and amazing people.
When we started dating my husband had just purchased Quality Sleep Shop Mattress Factory that was located in Brookfield at the time, and he lived in the apartment above the shop.
When we got married we moved to Lemont and quickly realized that wasn’t a good fit for us, so we spent many weekend hours driving around LaGrange, Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale and Western Springs looking for a new home.
We eventually bought a house in LaGrange Highlands – where we lived for about 5 years, when we outgrew that house,
we moved to our current home in Western Springs – that was almost 9 years ago!

Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop in the Hinsdale/WS/La Grange/CH Area?
We love so many restaurants, but if I had to pick three favorites they’d be: Davanti in Western Springs, Talley’s in Clarendon Hills, and Giuliano’s in Hinsdale.
Shopping – Some of my favorites are Casey’s, My Sister Kate, Anderson’s Book Shop, Vintage Charm, and Learning Express.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
People who don’t know me think I am crazy to have 5 kids. If I had a penny for every time someone said to me, “You have your hands full” I’d be a very rich woman. Those people would be surprised to know that even though our house can be crazy and messy and loud, it is also amazing and I am truly happy being a mom to five great kids.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
Sadly, my mom passed away about 6 years ago, but she was always there to lend a hand, give me words of encouragement or just a big hug from the time I was little all the way through the years when my kids were still little. My mom will always be the person I look up to most.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
My husband, Tim, and I own Quality Sleep Shop and My Green Mattress in La Grange Highlands (right on 55th Street next to the Highlands Queen) where we handcraft our very own line of mattresses and we offer them at affordable prices because we are factory-direct. We are known for having amazing customer service, plus we offer free local delivery and free set-up. I am able to do a lot of my work from home, but can easily pop into the Sleep Shop as it less than a mile from our home.Tim worked for Quality Sleep Shop when he was still in High School making mattresses and as a delivery kid. After working there for a few years while attending North Central College, his boss was ready to retire and Tim jumped at the chance to buy the business from him. That was right around the time we first started dating way back in 1996.
We expanded the business by opening our current location in La Grange Highlands in 2006. We made a tough decision to eventually close the Brookfield location, because as a small family business we just couldn’t be in two places at once. And, we found that most of our customers were happy to drive an extra couple of miles to our new location that offered an expanded showroom and better parking.
In 2007, our infant daughter, Emily, was having issues with allergies and eczema. To help alleviate these issues we decided to make changes to our diet and lifestyle to include more natural products and organic foods. I asked Tim to make Emily an organic crib mattress, which inspired us to develop a full line of handcrafted organic mattresses. We now offer certified organic mattresses to people across the country on our website: MyGreenMattress.com and local people are lucky enough to be able to try them out in the showroom. It really made sense that everyone could benefit from healthy sleep on an organic mattress that is comfortable, safe, and completely free from the dangerous chemicals that are found in many conventional mattresses. These mattresses are better for the environment too because they are made from eco-conscious renewable and recyclable materials.
In 2015, we outgrew our little factory where we manufactured mattresses. It used to be right there in the building where our showroom is located. Our new manufacturing facility is located in Willowbrook, where we can make up to 50 made-to-order mattresses each day. We have just 12 employees and some of them have been with us for us for a decade or longer.
In 2019, My Green Mattress became one of only a few mattress factories in the country to be recognized as GOTS and GOLS certified organic by the Trade Union. This was a big undertaking for us, but it shows our commitment to offering the safest organic mattresses available anywhere.
We would be so happy if you come see us in our showroom at 1519 55th Street in LaGrange Highlands or preview our organic mattresses at MyGreenMattress.com.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Our community is amazing. We love the way everyone here supports our small business as well as other small businesses. Western Springs has such a small-town feel – everyone knows everyone and we all look out for each other. Ridgewood is an amazing neighborhood, we have great friends here and special committees that are always organizing fun events that keep us meeting new people and having fun together. Our children are getting the best education we could ask for at both Highlands and LT schools, and we love the many opportunities for our children to grow and meet new people by joining activities and sports outside of school.
