Meet-a-Mom, Carrie Thangamani
What’s your favorite family activity in the Hinsdale, Western Springs, LaGrange, Clarendon Hills Area ?
I love taking long walks with my husband, Vijay, with the kids riding their bikes, around the neighborhoods into town. We always run into friends and love stopping for a coffee or treat downtown. Swimming, golfing, and tennis at our local clubs are also some of our favorites in the summertime!
How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
I have two children. Caroline is 8 years old and in the third grade. Nathan is 7 years old and in first grade. Both attend Oak Elementary School.
How long have you lived in the Hinsdale/WS/LaGrange/CH Area? What made you decide to live here?
We have lived in Hinsdale for almost 9 years. We moved in the Spring of 2011 after I purchased my orthodontic practice, CHT Orthodontics in early 2011. My husband, who is an orthopedic surgeon, has offices in Downers Grove and Elmhurst, so this area was a natural fit due to the proximity of work. We also knew the schools were great and loved the charm and “quaintness” of Hinsdale.
Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop in the Hinsdale/WS/LaGrange/CH Area?
Favorite restaurants: Nabuki, Il Poggolio, both in Hinsdale and Talleys in Clarendon Hills
Favorite Stores: Sweet William and Vintage Charm for me, and My Sister Kate for my children and all their friends’ birthday gifts. I love shopping local and always try to purchase from the local boutiques! It is so important to keep the vibrancy of the downtown area.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Hmmm..good question. I’m pretty transparent. I’m from a very small town in southwestern New York—the home of Lucilee Ball and the 10,000 Maniacs. We are proud of our two little claims to fame!
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My close knit group of friends here. Being a full time working mom and sometimes having to miss kids’ activities and events, they keep me in the loop and are always incredibly supportive! They also provide endless comic relief which we all need after a long day.

I own an orthodontic practice in town, CHT Orthodontics, located in Grant Square. We are involved with and sponsor countless local philanthropic endeavors, most recently including the Wellness House, Community House, and the D181 Foundation. I also recently joined the Village Economic Development Commission and am excited to contribute in a different way to the economic vitality of the area. 
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
From day one, our mission has been to serve our patients by creating beautiful, healthy smiles and to improve the surrounding community. Most of our growth can be attributed to local families and word of mouth referrals and I feel incredibly blessed to have formed so many close relationships with our patients and families.
