Dr. Ramzi Daibis, Band and Wire: Your Orthodontist’s Office is Closed. What Does This Mean for Your Treatment? | Hinsdale Area Moms

With the outbreak of COVID-19, most orthodontists (ourselves included) had to make the difficult, but important, decision to postpone all orthodontic appointments with the exception of emergencies. This decision was made to protect patients, staff and families. But what does this mean for your/your child’s orthodontic treatment. Below, we answer the most common questions.

Will this delay treatment?
Postponing your appointment for a few weeks should not impact your treatment time significantly. The good news that orthodontic appliances continue to work even if you’re not seeing the orthodontist exactly every 4-6 weeks. Obviously, after a certain point, no more progress will be made without an actual adjustment by the orthodontist but generally speaking, teeth will continue to move for several weeks after a new wire is placed or if elastics (rubber bands) are being used.

What should be done differently?
During this time, please adhere to your orthodontist’s instructions; wear rubber bands as needed, brush and floss your teeth regularly and stay away from foods and habits that can damage your braces. This is the best way to ensure that your treatment progresses smoothly and effectively.

What if I am an Invisalign patient?
Your Invisalign treatment should proceed uninterrupted. Simply continue to wear your aligners (and rubber bands if necessary). You can check your progress with us by texting us or by using MyInvisalign app on your phone. We will mail you new aligners if needed.

What if I have a question or have an emergency?
Please do not hesitate to contact us by calling or texting our office. We are still seeing emergency patients as needed and we are still available to answer any questions or concerns you have.

What if I am a new patient interested in orthodontic treatment?
We are offering complimentary virtual consultations utilizing secure video conferencing. Our Board-certified orthodontists and treatment coordinators will meet with you online to discuss your needs, treatment options and financial arrangements.
That’s not all, we will also offer you $1,000 credit toward Invisalign or braces once you’re ready to start treatment. Interested? Call us or text “Virtual” to 630.320.8888 to get started!
