Meet-a-Mom, Christine Trainer

What’s your favorite family activity in the Hinsdale, Western Springs, La Grange, Clarendon Hills Area ?
We have had so many favorites over the years through the different ages and stages. From pumpkin patches to trick or treating in downtown Hinsdale to volunteering at the food pantry in town or at Hepzhibah in Oak Park. Today with 15 year old and 12 year old boys we still love volunteering together but also enjoy a round of golf together, dinner at our favorite restaurant, Nabuki, or watching games and getting appetizers at Fuller House.

How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
Two sons, 12 and 15 years old.

How long have you lived in the Hinsdale/WS/La Grange/CH Area? What made you decide to live here?
10 years! We moved from the East Coast and chose Hinsdale for the schools and proximity to both airports and the city. It was for my husbands job at a time when I was going through an array of health issues and we decided that I take a PAUSE from my career in Manhattan that included a lot of travel and not a lot of family time. We came to Hinsdale saying it was a 2 year pause agreement to get me healthy and back on track and get some much needed time with my boys and husband. It turned into an entire new life for us that we loved and decided not to leave but instead planted our roots here and made it our home.
I became an avid volunteer and philanthropist in the community, made being there for family including myself my #1 priority and through it all found my own journey to health again. After finding my own healing, I went back to school to become a board certified Integrative Health and Wellness Coach, started my wellness business RED Integrative Health, Where Nutrition, Health & Wellness Meet Your Lifestyle and wrote a book about my journey and guide to help others called PAUSE Reflect, Evolve and Design Your Lifestyle Now.

Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop in the Hinsdale/WS/ La Grange/CH Area?
Nabuki is our family go to. Vie is our local date night but there are so many great spots. We try to rotate our restaurant picks every week as a family.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I am the youngest of 10 kids!

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My own Mom. She passed when my first born was 11 months and unfortunately never was able to guide me while living as she suffered from Alzheimers but she modeled to me growing up by her own parenting with her faith, honest and unconditional love, kindness and grace. I could only wish to be half as incredible a Mom as she was. Things were not perfect but she was real and as a Mom of only 2 I still am in awe of how she did it with such calmness and grace. She was the epitome of love.

I am a current member and former President of Infant Welfare Society’s Hinsdale Chapter. Former member of Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club, and an active volunteer at Hepzhibah in Oak Park which is near and dear to my entire family.
Most recently I became one of the founding members of Stop 5G Hinsdale in October. We are a group of concerned citizens that are working to stop the 5G roll out in the Western Suburbs, IL and across the nation starting with Hinsdale. Our village was selected by Verizon for the roll out and the initial implementation is 143 Wireless Transmitter Facilities (WTF) for our village alone. Ironic acronym… Basically 143 new poles throughout our village that will be emitting microwave level radiation 24/7. The poles are planned to be only 8’-15’ high, are uninsurable because of the risks associated with 5G and are only Verizon… the other 4 service providers want their own poles and will be coming in right behind them. We are working to reverse the IL law 1451 that took away power from all local municipalities to manage or regulate the roll out and gave away our public ways to telecom companies. We are also working to stop the roll out until independent scientific studies prove that 5G is safe for humans. Right now there are thousands of studies that show that it is not. Not only do they show that 5G is not safe to humans or animals or plants but that is also lowers property values by 20% instantly when the WTF’s are installed. We love technology but want safe, responsible technology. The FCC is “protecting” us by regulations not updated since 1996 and based on only 1 device with less then 2G technology and a 6’ tall, 200 lb male. The Academy of Pediatrics has asked them to update and they have ignored their request and numerous others over the years. 5G is not something that we should rush into until proven safe for humans without a doubt.Would you buy a car seat or toy or car for your family without being proven safe? Our local, state and federal politicians need to hear from you.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
The saying “It takes a village” always sounded corny to me but came to life for me here. The community here looks out for one another. The community has inspired me and our family. The support and encouragement in good times and in difficult times is beyond what I ever imagined and am truly grateful for.
